UN institutions: We do not participate in the creation of safe zones in Gaza

The heads of 12 UN institutions and other human rights organizations announced that they will not participate in the creation of safe zones in Gaza that are declared unilaterally.

According to the report of Fars News Agency International Group, the heads of several UN bodies announced in a joint statement that they will not participate in the creation of any “safe zone” in Gaza declared by one side of the conflict.

This statement has been signed by 12 people from the United Nations institutions, including the United Nations humanitarian affairs officer, the head of the Human Rights Council, the head of the Children’s Fund and the head of the World Health Organization.

UN officials have stated that declaring safe zones that are not agreed upon by all parties puts civilians at risk.

A part of this joint statement states: “A safe zone that is declared unilaterally or implemented with the presence of armed forces is not really safe.”

Tens of thousands of Palestinians from Gaza have left the north of this area in recent weeks and moved to the southern areas, which are a little safer than the northern areas.
