Massive protests in support of Palestine in Germany
This afternoon (Saturday), massive protests were again held in Berlin, the capital of Germany, condemning the Gaza war, and the protesters demanded the end of the German government's support to the occupation regime. |
Many of the demonstrators carried Palestinian flags. They were carried in black, white, red and green colors. Many people chanted “Freedom for Gaza” and “Freedom for Palestine”, but cities were also chanted with slogans such as “Germany Funds, Israel Bombs” and “Stop the Genocide”.
One of the organizers of these pro-Palestinian protests announced from a loudspeaker: We do not support terrorist organizations and we do not support killing in Israel. The police had banned any communication for violence, as well as advertising for several Palestinian organizations, including the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas. Although these protests were announced as a silent march, the demonstrations became very noisy and sometimes aggressive. Whistle concerts were held in front of American fast food outlets or chain cafes along the way. The police repeatedly advised the organizers to ask the participants to refrain from uttering prohibited slogans. Also on the same day, protests against Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his policies were held on the occasion of his visit to Berlin, which led to violence.
The police were present in the city with a large number of forces during these protests. A total of 3,000 police officers were deployed in Berlin on Saturday.
These protests in support of the Palestinians were held from 2:00 p.m. /p>
Some protestors shouted: “The German media is lying, don’t let yourself be deceived.” A poster reads: “Jerusalem is the capital of Palestine.” At around 16:00, the protestors stopped chanting for 15 minutes to respect the victims of Gaza.
The police had already announced the rules that had to be followed by the leader of the demonstration and the participants. Among other things, no flags or other objects should be burned by protesters. Any call for violence was also prohibited, especially calls for violence against Israelis or for the destruction of the regime.
