The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross criticized the killing of children in the Gaza Strip
In a conversation with a Swiss media, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross strongly criticized the violation of children's rights and their killing in the Gaza Strip. |
He criticized the war in Gaza and said: Children are under the protection of international humanitarian law. There is never a reason for a child to suffer so much in an armed conflict, because children are not always involved in an armed conflict.
He added: What we need in an armed conflict is access and resources. In situations like Gaza, access is primarily linked to security guarantees. But we often get caught in the fire. We are not bulletproof. My employees are heroes, but they are not superhuman.
The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross stated in another part of this conversation: During my trips to various crisis areas, it became clear to me that ignoring International humanitarian law comes with huge costs. Human suffering and destruction will last for decades and billions of costs are needed to reverse this process.
He also said: But we should be able to return to dialogue at any time. All these conflicts cannot be resolved by purely military methods. This means that the communication channel must always remain open. International humanitarian law and an organization with the authority of the Red Cross provide this channel.
The head of the International Committee of the Red Cross stated in another part of this conversation: I have never been so worried about the world situation in my life. . I think we are at a crossroads where we either return to the political priority and accept that peace solutions can only be found through negotiation, or we continue to witness massive destruction and suffering.
