According to the report of Fars International News Agency, the Irish police announced that five people, including three young children, were taken to the hospital after an attack with a cold weapon in the center of Dublin city.
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said police had arrested a suspect.
The state network “RTA” quoted an eyewitness who was present at the scene of the incident and reported that someone attacked people with a cold weapon. This eyewitness said that when he approached the scene, he saw two children who were wounded with knives.
Anthony Boyle, a 31-year-old consultant for an electronics company who lives on the street where the accident happened, told Reuters news agency: “I saw a child on The ground had fallen. It was a little girl.”
He also told Reuters news agency that he saw people crying, both women and men.
Police said that one girl suffered serious injuries and two other children are being treated at the hospital for minor injuries. An adult woman was also seriously injured. An adult man suffered minor injuries.
Local media reported that the incident happened in Parnell Square in the center of Dublin. At least 20 police officers are present at the scene and the area is cordoned off.
The Prime Minister of Ireland stated in a statement: “We are all shocked by the incident that took place in Parnell Square.”
Irish Times newspaper reported that the arrested person was also injured and it is currently believed that he committed suicide. This newspaper writes that the initial reports indicate that this man intended to attack people, which was stopped by the intervention of pedestrians.
