The United States has advised Armenia several times to dismantle Russian military bases in the country and withdraw Russian border forces from Armenia in exchange for guaranteeing security. The 102nd Russian military base is located in Gyumri, Armenia. This military base is under the command of the Southern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces. The center was previously the base of the 127th 7th Guards Division of the former Soviet Union, and the Armenian forces were part of the Transcaucasian Forces.
A senior Armenian diplomat also recently said that the The country is not looking to withdraw from the Collective Security Treaty Organization and close the Russian military base in this country.
