South Africa not only accused Israel of war crimes in the International Criminal Court (ICC), but will also ask the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to declare it an apartheid state.
This issue was announced by “Naldi Pandour”, the foreign minister of South Africa, in response to the parliament’s question.
He pointed out that South Africa and Palestine They are currently working on developing practical strategies to submit the Palestinian case to the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice to “declare Israel an apartheid state”.
The South African Foreign Minister pointed out that at the continental level, South Africa unilaterally granted official observer status to Israel by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on July 22, 2021 refused. In this regard, South Africa played a key role in not granting Israel observer status in the African Union and welcomed the suspension of Israel’s observer status in the African Union in February 2023.
The action took place while Israel’s oppression became more brutal, the oppressed Palestinian people faced bombardment and continued illegal settlements in their land, and Israel was making any attempt at a peace process difficult.

Since the recall of the South African ambassador from Tel Aviv in 2018, the South African embassy in Israel has been managed by the chargé d’affaires. It supports Palestine’s efforts to become a member of the United Nations and to establish positive, credible and sustainable international mechanisms to deal with the Palestinian issue based on international law.
