The construction of the new Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan railway was started with the aim of further developing the transport and transit potential in the Turkestan region with a length of 152 km.

According to a Fars news agency reporter in Astana, the construction of the new “Derbaza-Mektaral” railway line, 152 kilometers long, has begun in the “Turkestan” region of Kazakhstan.

This major infrastructure project is being implemented by the order of the President of Kazakhstan, Kasem Zhamert Tokayev, and aims to further develop the potential of transportation and transit.

As ​​part of this project, a post A new checkpoint will be opened at the state border of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.

In general, since the beginning of this year, the volume of cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan has amounted to 25.8 million tons. The main flow of cargo passes through the interstate “Saryagash” station, which today operates with an acceptable capacity.

Construction of a new railway line, the possibility of directing cargo from the existing “Saryagash-Tashkent” section. to a new line, it will make it possible to relieve congestion at the Saryagash station and increase the export traffic on the route to Uzbekistan in general. It will help the development of the Turkestan region.

Kazakhstan Prime Minister Alikhan Ismailov noted that today another important event is happening in the country.

He emphasized: By the end of the year, the volume of goods transportation with Uzbekistan is expected to be around 31 million tons, which has increased by 16% compared to last year.

For this project, the purchase of 19.7 thousand tons of rails as well as 280 thousand reinforced concrete traverse devices and rail fasteners is considered.

Building a new railway will create 3,400 jobs. Kazakhstan’s share in this project will be 85%. Khanat Almagambatov, Vice Chairman of the Board of Kazakhstan Railways, emphasized that the Darbaza-Mektaral line is two remote areas of Turkestan-Mektaral and Zhetisai region. He said: 9 stations will be built. This project provides direct access of goods from Kazakhstan to these regions and from these regions to Astana. Now they have to cross the border with Uzbekistan, which affects the development of the regions.

According to him, the transit potential of Kazakhstan will increase significantly. Currently, the issue of building a railway line through Pakistan to India is under consideration. Launching the Darbaza-Mektaral line will be a significant help for Kazakhstan in the development of this strategic route.

Almagambatov continued: We predict that cargo traffic will also increase by 10 to 14 million tons. In the future, it is possible to increase 20 to 25 million tons. By bypassing the Tashkent hub, this sector will move cargo in both directions much faster. Systematically focuses on the development of railway infrastructure. In particular, the construction of the second line in the “Dostiq-Muyenti” section and a new railway bypassing Almaty is underway.

In the near future, new railway work Bakhti – Ayagoz” will start with access to the third international intersection with China. In total, more than 1300 kilometers of railways have been planned in this country in three years.
