Armenia: Azerbaijan’s actions are causing tension

On Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia issued a statement regarding the killing of one of its soldiers on the border with the Republic of Azerbaijan, claiming that the country's actions are against the peace process.

According to the report of the international group of Fars News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia issued a statement on Monday regarding the killing of one of its armed forces by the snipers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, claiming that this country is causing tension.

According to the news agency “Arka” It is stated in this statement: “A soldier of the Armenian army was killed by a sniper shot of the armed forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the border this Sunday. We strongly condemn these actions of the Republic of Azerbaijan with the aim of creating new tension, delaying the peace process and bringing the negotiations to a dead end.”

The two neighboring republics of Azerbaijan and Armenia have been fighting over the Nagorno-Karabakh region for three decades. The two countries do not have diplomatic relations. Despite the efforts for peace between these two countries, the final agreement has not yet been reached. It happened near an Armenian military post located in “Bardzroni” area.

The ministry announced: “Investigations are continuing to clarify this incident.”

These two neighboring countries held a fruitless meeting about border demarcation in the past days. Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan continued to discuss the delimitation of their borders as part of the broader peace treaty talks. They held a meeting for the fifth time. These commissions were chaired by Mehr Grigoryan, Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia and Shahin Mustafaev from the Republic of Azerbaijan. After this meeting, the Foreign Ministries of the two countries published similar statements.

This meeting gave hope among the observers for progress towards any border determination and reaching the goal. “Unfortunately, the meeting was short,” Armenian journalist Onik Grigorian said. Five meetings of the border commissions have been held and no agreement has been reached yet on how to arrange and hold them.”
