The veto of the said resolution also brought the reaction of Iran, Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani, while condemning this US action, called Washington an accomplice of the Zionists and considered the consequences of any expansion of the scope of the war in the region to be directed at the US and the Israeli regime.

Foreign Minister Turkey’s Hakan Fidan also described America’s veto with this sentence: “The United States is left alone in supporting the continuation of the war against Gaza.” This action was announced by the United States.

On the other hand, the Human Rights Watch announced that the White House vetoed this resolution and exposed itself to being an “accomplice in war crimes” and the CEO of Oxfam in the field of charity and humanitarian affairs) Abby Maxman also called this action “another nail in the coffin of America’s reputation in the field of human rights” in a statement.

The justification for the veto of this resolution claimed that the prepared draft was far from the facts and would have left Hamas on its own and could reorganize itself and repeat attacks similar to October 7th.

The failure of the Security Council to approve this resolution took place while the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, wrote to the Council on Wednesday, December 16 Security had demanded the use of its powers under Article 99 of the United Nations Charter in order to immediately stop the attacks of the Israeli regime in Gaza.
