Linda Thomas Greenfield, America’s representative to the United Nations, released a statement and welcomed the extension of the Security Council’s monitoring team’s mission for another year, and the extension of sanctions against the Taliban, including asset freezes, travel bans, and arms embargoes.
Greenfield went on to say that the Sanctions Monitoring Team report will allow member states to track whether the Taliban is meeting its commitments, including those related to counter-terrorism and human rights for Women and girls, as well as unhindered humanitarian access, creating safe conditions for the workers of relief organizations and institutions, and whether the independent provision of aid works or not.
The United Nations Security Council has extended the mission of the Sanctions Monitoring Team against the Taliban and entities threatening the peace and security of Afghanistan for another year.
