According to the report of Fars News Agency International Group, the spokesperson of the United Nations stated on Tuesday that this organization is ready to support Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan in moving towards the normalization of relations.

According to the news agency “Armenia News” Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman of the United Nations Secretary General, said, of course, the United Nations does not need to play a leadership role everywhere to solve peace and security problems.
He said: “We are always ready to support a framework for peace.”
These two neighboring countries have fought each other twice so far. In the Second Karabakh War, the army of the Republic of Azerbaijan had a significant advantage over Yerevan. and recently, after Baku’s attacks on the remaining parts of Karabagh in September, the Armenians present in this region agreed to the conditions of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the disarmament of this region, and Karabagh came under Baku’s control.
Dujarric said about the progress in the process of normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan: “It seems that important steps have been taken in the last few weeks. The Secretary General of the United Nations has welcomed it.”
The Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia recently exchanged prisoners of war on the border in a step towards normalizing relations. This exchange included the release of 32 Armenians by the Republic of Azerbaijan, these people were captured in late 2020. On the other hand, Armenia handed over two soldiers of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
A high-ranking official of the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan described the continuation of peace negotiations with Armenia as very important.
Azerbaijan Prime Minister Ali Asadov said on Monday during the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Nations in Moscow: “Continuation of peace-building dialogues between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Armenia is very important.” »
