Lavrov: Stopping the bloodshed in Gaza is the main priority

According to the report of the international group of Fars news agency, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow’s number one priority is in the Gaza Strip at the general meeting of the Russia-Arab Cooperation Forum today. He knows how to end bloodshed and solve human problems.

He said in this meeting: Our meeting is in the midst of the unprecedented escalation of the situation in the Middle East and the continuation of turmoil. It is done in the world. The complex nature of emerging challenges and threats makes a collective approach to address the tasks of strengthening peace and security in the region and ensuring its sustainable development increasingly necessary.

Lavrov said referring to the situation in Gaza: the violence we witness every day has reached an unprecedented and truly catastrophic scale. The dead and injured are tens of thousands of people, most of whom are civilians, mostly children and women.

The Russian Foreign Minister added: The consequences of the blockade by Israel have intensified the suffering of the people of this region. We consider our main duty to stop the bleeding and ensure the conditions for providing humanitarian aid to those in need.

Lavrov went on to explain that Russia, along with like-minded supporters, has made several attempts to convince the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution calling for a lasting ceasefire. It has faced the opposition of the United States, which “takes a unilateral position and usurps every process and initiative as always.”

Today, Wednesday, the Russian Foreign Minister, in a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart on the sidelines of the sixth meeting of the Russia-Arab Cooperation Forum, emphasized the need to establish a ceasefire as soon as possible.
