According to “UPI” news agency, in December of last year, Roman Abramovich, Russian billionaire and former owner of English Chelsea club, along with A number of other Russian and Belarusian financiers filed a complaint against the EU sanctions in the European Court of Justice. Their complaint was related to their names being included in the list of European sanctions against Russia and related to the military conflict in Ukraine.
They mentioned in this complaint that these sanctions include the freezing of their assets by the European Union. has violated their rights.
The European Union Court finally ruled on Wednesday that these sanctions, including blocking money and banning entry to and transit from the Union, should be maintained against Abramovich.
This court claimed in its ruling, Abramovich “failed to prove the illegality of his name entering the sanctioned list and his name remaining on this list.”
The statement of the General Court of the European Union states that this court “rejected Abramovich’s complaint and thus maintains the restrictive measures taken against him.”
The ruling read: “The European Council made an error of assessment in its decision to include Abramović’s name on the list in question and to keep her name on this list, taking into account Abramović’s role in the Evraz Group and in particular its parent company “
This court also rejected Abramovich’s request to receive more than one million dollars in compensation for the damage caused to his reputation.
