America welcomes the approval of Sweden’s accession to NATO in the Foreign Relations Committee of the Turkish Parliament

According to the report of Fars News Agency International Group, the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday night Tehran time welcomed the agreement of the Turkish parliamentary committee with the approval of Sweden joining the NATO alliance.
The spokesperson of the US State Department told the news agency “Anatoli said: “We welcome the progress of the Turkish parliament in advancing the protocol of Sweden’s accession to NATO and we are waiting for a quick approval in the parliament.”
This American diplomat continued: “Sweden, as a very capable defense partner, will strengthen this coalition.”
Finland and Sweden, both Northern European countries and near or bordering Russia, applied for NATO membership after the start of Moscow’s war against Ukraine in February 2022.
Turkey confirmed Finland’s membership of the alliance in March but said it was waiting for Sweden to adhere to a June 2022 tripartite memorandum to address Ankara’s security concerns.
Any new NATO member must be approved by all current members, including Turkey, which has been a member of the alliance for more than 70 years and has the second largest army.
The spokesperson of the US Department of State said about the sale of F-16 jets to Turkey: “The United States will not comment on this issue until it is officially announced to Congress.”
The spokesperson of the US State Department said: “Joe Biden has made it clear that he supports the modernization of Turkey’s F-16 fleet that improves NATO’s interoperability.”
