Russia: Europeans’ statements about JCPOA are completely hypocritical
The representative of Russia in international organizations based in Vienna described the statements of European officials about Iran's non-compliance with the JCPOA as "completely hypocritical". |
Ulianov stated in an interview with the Sputnik news agency that an agreement was reached on the revival of the JCPOA nuclear agreement at the beginning of March 2022. He said: “The agreement on the restoration of the nuclear agreement was actually 99% reached. I was at the head of the Russian delegation in these negotiations and everything else was discussed and agreed upon.” According to the Russian diplomat, it was apparently decided in the fall of 2022 in Washington that re-entry was necessary. Not in agreement with Iran. He said that subsequently, a similar position was adopted by England, France and Germany, and they “simply did not appear at the negotiating table.”
From the point of view of the permanent representative of the Russian Federation, the subsequent statements of the representatives of the three European countries that Iran’s non-compliance with the JCPOA is “absolutely hypocritical” because the document agreed in 2022 clearly regulated Tehran’s obligations under the JCPOA.
Ulyanov emphasized: “There are now many complaints about Iran enriching uranium up to 60%, and apparently this work is expanding, but according to the agreement that the Westerners have to finalize it. They refused. It was stipulated that Iran’s enrichment should not exceed 3.67%. This can be realized, but the Westerners themselves will not allow this to happen.”
Ulyanov’s statements were published a day after the spokesmen of the US, British, French and German foreign ministries issued a statement according to the recent report of the International Agency Atomic Energy has pointed out that Iran’s uranium enrichment rate has increased to 60% and said that this action of the Islamic Republic adds to the tensions surrounding its nuclear program. The joint statement of the United States and three European countries that are members of the JCPOA has claimed that the intensification of enrichment in High levels in the Fardo and Natanz sites significantly increase the risk of nuclear weapons proliferation. The Russian diplomat noted that the chances of resuming the JCPOA are minimal at the moment.
