Austria’s new condition for countries wishing to enter the Schengen area

Austria, which has recently given a green light to the request of Romania and Bulgaria to enter the European free movement area, or the Schengen area, is now proposing a new condition for the fulfillment of the request of the two countries.

According to the report of the international group of Fars news agency, Austria has stated that the condition for the entry of Bulgaria and Romania into the countries of the Schengen area is that both countries must take action to accept refugees from the countries of the Middle East.

According to Anatoly, Austria, which had previously vetoed the request of Romania and Bulgaria to enter the Schengen free movement zone, took a stand on Friday. Jadidi announced that both Bulgaria and Romania need to accept asylum seekers from Afghanistan and Syria in order to enter the Schengen area. The Minister of the Interior of Austria said in a statement: There must be significant improvements in the protection of the external borders of the European Union, so that eventually these improvements will reach a point where Bulgaria and Romania can be accepted in the “air Schengen” area.

Romania said on Wednesday that along with Bulgaria, both of which have been members of the European Union since 2007, they will enter the Schengen area through air and sea borders in March. In a statement, Karner emphasized the need to strengthen border controls in this country and emphasized the increase of military presence, especially along the land borders between Romania and Bulgaria for better control of traffic.

According to him, the necessary conditions for the realization of this situation are the increase of operations of Frontex, that is, the Border Guard Agency and the European Coast Guard in Bulgaria and control at land borders, as well as receiving financial support from the European Union Commission to strengthen control at these borders.

According to the Austrian Ministry of Interior, there are no ongoing negotiations for the two countries to join Schengen with land borders, and there is no planned date for this to take effect.

In this statement, it is stated that the official approval of the member states is required as the last step for the realization of the agreement. Currently, the Schengen area includes 23 of the 27 European countries and Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein. The member countries of this region are allowed to travel freely and without any restrictions and without the need for border controls among the countries of this region.

Austria has argued before. It was that the increasing flow of illegal immigrants to Europe stabilizes that the Schengen area is not functioning properly. On the other hand, the Netherlands, which previously insisted that Bulgaria should carry out comprehensive judicial and anti-corruption reforms, has long blocked the entry of this country along with Romania into the Schengen area.
