According to the regional office of Tasnim news agency, “Zabih Allah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Taliban government rejected the report of “Reporters Without Borders (RSF)” that Afghanistan is dangerous for journalists and stated: There is no threat to journalists now, as last year no journalists were harmed.
Reporters Without Borders recently named Vietnam, Russia and Afghanistan as the most dangerous countries for journalists in a report.
Government Spokesman In response to this report, the Taliban stated: “Unfortunately, the institutions that have been created in the name of defending journalists and with various titles in the West have plans for themselves because of propaganda against countries and analyze and investigate issues from the same perspective. There is no threat to journalists in Afghanistan. No journalist has been harmed in Afghanistan in the past year. Of course, there were confiscations and legal measures that were both limited and resolved, and most of them were not related to media work, but had a legal or criminal nature.
He added: “Unfortunately, these institutions are silent in the Israeli sector, where 20 to 30 journalists lost their lives in one month and were directly targeted.”
The Reporters Without Borders report states: The Taliban government imprisoned 21 journalists in 2023 and three journalists are currently in custody. Also, since the Taliban came to power in 2021, it has suppressed the independent media in Afghanistan. He is in prison.
