The local officials of the Taliban in eastern Afghanistan say that they had already informed the farmers about the ban on poppy cultivation and those who ignore this ban will be arrested and imprisoned.
Abd al-Basir Zabali, the spokesperson of the Taliban government for the police command Nangarhar says, the arrested people planted poppies in defiance of the ban.
He said about this: the anti-narcotics officials of the police command of “Ghani Khel” city of Nangarhar province arrested 10 people who had cultivated poppy, from Other officials of “Pachiragram” city have also arrested six people, each of whom had cultivated poppy in their own lands.
Zabeli added that the poppy products of violators were destroyed and these people will be jailed for disobeying the decree banning poppy cultivation.
Previously, the Supreme Court of the Taliban published a new letter about the punishment of people who cultivate poppy.
According to this letter, whenever a person is arrested for cultivating less than half an acre of poppy or cannabis land, he will be sentenced to six months, half an acre to nine months, and whenever If a person is arrested for planting one acre or more of poppy or cannabis, he will be sentenced to one year in prison.
The letter emphasizes that this verdict is enforceable by all the courts of the Taliban government and includes farmers, landowners and partners.
