According to the foreign policy group Tasnim news agency, Amir Saeed Irvani, the representative of Iran in the United Nations, wrote in a letter to the Security Council regarding the accusations surrounding the Red Sea: In the present correspondence, following the recent public meeting of the United Nations Security Council on the situation of the Red Sea, which was held on January 3, 2024, under the agenda of “keeping peace and International Security” was held, prepared. In the aforementioned meeting, representatives from the United States and the Israeli regime once again made baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran by abusing the podium of the Security Council and published false information and deliberate misinformation.
The full text of this letter is as follows:
The Islamic Republic of Iran categorically condemns and categorically rejects the baseless claims made in this meeting. he does. These accusations are unprovable and unsubstantiated. The Islamic Republic of Iran has always attached great importance to maritime security and freedom of navigation and emphasizes its unwavering commitment to adhere to its international obligations and maintain peace and security in the region.
The goal of the US and the Israeli regime in making such baseless accusations is clear: to divert international attention from the root causes of the current situation in the Red Sea; Genocide and brutal massacre of the Israeli regime with the full support of the United States against the innocent Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, as well as their participation in coordinated military aggression and malicious activities against other countries in the region.
The United States cannot deny or cover up this undeniable fact; A fact that indicates that the recent events in the Red Sea are directly related to the continuation of Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza. The United States and the Israeli regime bear full responsibility for the reprehensible crimes being committed in occupied Palestine. The severity of the war crime of the Israeli regime and the crime of genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza have been acknowledged and documented by the United Nations, international organizations and human rights institutions; The crimes that they present as the most widespread genocide recorded in contemporary history.
Instead of taking decisive action to curb these severe violations, the United States not only stands by The Israeli regime stands by, but helps the occupying regime by providing military support and significant diplomatic cover. Blocking the Security Council’s charter mandate, which runs counter to international calls for an end to Israel’s slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza, the US is now seeking a Security Council resolution that ostensibly focuses on rights and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. However, the main goal is to legitimize the so-called “international naval coalition” led by Washington to serve its regional political goals and to give Israel the necessary shield to continue its war crimes and crimes in Gaza. As a result, the statements of the United States about the so-called “rights of navigation and freedom of ships of all countries in the Red Sea” are only seen as an attempt to divert from the bitter reality of ongoing crimes and genocide in Palestine.
Islamic Republic of Iran, warning against any provocative or irresponsible actions of the United States that may endanger the peace and security of the region, asks the Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities to address the causes of the situation. The current of the Red Sea should be adhered to. In this regard, the Security Council must take decisive measures to force the Israeli regime to stop the bloodshed, stop its aggressive actions and firmly adhere to its international obligations under humanitarian and human rights laws. In addition, the Security Council must force the occupying regime to fully implement resolutions 2712 and 2720; Resolutions calling for minimum requirements to facilitate and ensure the prompt, safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people throughout the Gaza Strip.
