According to the foreign policy group Tasnim news agency, Amir Saeed Irwani, the representative and ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, sent a letter in response to other baseless accusations raised by the representative of the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran in the recent meetings of the United Nations Security Council.

The full text of this letter is as follows:

At the meeting of the Security Council for the adoption of Resolution 2722 (2024) held on January 10, 2024 was, in the agenda of “maintaining international peace and security” (S/2024/9527) as well as the next briefing in the same agenda on January 12, 2024 (S/2024/9532), it is regrettable that the American representative once again It has used the platform of the Security Council to advance its political agenda by publishing lies and deliberate misinformation and making baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the current situation in the Red Sea region.

This abuse is especially alarming in light of recent serious violations of international law by the United States and the United Kingdom in committing acts of military aggression against Yemen. In this context, I would like to reaffirm Iran’s position on this matter as follows:

1. The Islamic Republic of Iran explicitly condemns and resolutely rejects the baseless claims made in the above meetings and emphasizes its commitment to maritime security and freedom of navigation. Despite serious concerns and considerations about the Security Council’s approach to the Yemen conflict and its resolutions on Yemen, Iran has never carried out any activity that violates Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015), including any deal in the sale or transfer of arms or weapons. . In addition, Iran has always defended the solution of the crisis in Yemen through political means.

2. Iran strongly condemns the US and British military aggression against Yemen. This illegal action is not only illegal and unjustifiable, but it clearly violates sovereignty, territorial integrity, international law, the UN Charter and the resolutions of the Yemeni Security Council, and as a result, it is considered a serious threat to the peace and security of the region. The US and UK’s reliance on the right of self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter to justify their wrongful international actions is misleading and has no legal basis in international law. In addition, Resolution 2722 (2024) explicitly emphasizes the adherence of member states to international law. It creates the suspicion of trying to legitimize the so-called “international maritime coalition” and serve its regional political goals. The use of the Security Council as a basis for justifying their illegal actions and protecting Israel from responsibility for war crimes and genocidal crimes in Gaza is evident. In this legal framework, Iran strongly rejects and condemns any arbitrary and misleading interpretation of Resolution 2722 by the US and its allies with the aim of justifying the use of illegal force and military aggression against Yemen.

3. It is clear to everyone that the roots of the current situation in the Red Sea are the genocide and brutal killings carried out by the Israeli regime and the full support of the United States against the innocent Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The United States cannot deny or cover up the undeniable fact that the recent events in the Red Sea are directly related to the continued Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people in Gaza. I want to emphasize that the interim government in Sana’a maintains its independent sovereignty, makes decisions and takes actions in its own interest. Any attempt to attribute their actions to the Islamic Republic of Iran is simply a deviation from the reality on the ground in Yemen, as well as a deviation from the crimes that occurred in Gaza. The United States, the United Kingdom and their participating allies are fully responsible for violating international law in committing military aggression against Yemen.

4. We ask the international community to unequivocally condemn the US and British military aggression against Yemen. This clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter requires strong condemnation. The Islamic Republic of Iran warns against the continued nature of such aggressions, as it is a threat to peace and security in the region, endangers maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, and undermines UN mediation efforts and political processes aimed at achieving these goals. A lasting solution and peace in Yemen will be done, it weakens. Iran warns the US and England about the security of shipping in the region to stop the war against Yemen

Amir Abdullahian: The attack on Yemen is a strategic mistake of America / Lavrov: We strongly adhere to the territorial integrity of Iran
