The international community should clearly condemn the US and British military aggression against Yemen

In a letter to the Security Council, the ambassador and permanent representative of Iran to the United Nations called the US and British military aggression against Yemen a clear violation of international law and called on the international community to condemn this act of aggression.

According to the foreign policy group of Fars News Agency, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Irvani, in a letter to the Security Council, rejected the American accusations about Iran’s role in the recent developments in the Red Sea.

This letter states: Pursuant to the letter dated January 8, 2024 (S/2024/33), the present correspondence is in response to other baseless accusations made by the representative of the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran in recent Council meetings. United Nations security was raised, prepared. In the meeting of the Security Council for the approval of Resolution 2722 (2024) which was held on January 10, 2024, in the agenda of “Maintaining international peace and security” (S/2024/9527) and also the next briefing session in the same agenda on January 12, 2024 (S /2024/9532), it is unfortunate that the representative of the United States has once again used the platform of the Security Council to advance his political agenda by spreading deliberate lies and false information and making baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran regarding the current situation in the Red Sea region. . This abuse is particularly worrying considering the recent serious violation of international laws by the United States and the United Kingdom in committing military aggression against Yemen.

Irvani stated in this letter: The Islamic Republic Iran categorically condemns and resolutely rejects the baseless claims raised in the above meetings and emphasizes its commitment to maritime security and freedom of navigation. Despite serious concerns and considerations about the Security Council’s approach to the Yemen conflict and its resolutions on Yemen, Iran has never carried out any activity that violates Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015), including any deal in the sale or transfer of arms or weapons. . In addition, Iran has always defended the solution of the crisis in Yemen through political means. It has been stated that this illegal action is not only illegal and unjustifiable, but also clearly violates sovereignty, territorial integrity, international law, the UN Charter and the resolutions of the Yemeni Security Council, and as a result, it is considered a serious threat to the peace and security of the region. The US and UK’s invocation of the right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter to justify their wrongful international actions is misleading and has no legal basis in international law. In addition, Resolution 2722 (2024) explicitly emphasizes the adherence of member states to international law. The rapid adoption of resolution 2722 (2024) by the United States raises the suspicion of an attempt to legitimize the term “international maritime coalition” and serve its regional political goals.

In the mentioned letter The use of the Security Council as a basis for justifying their illegal actions and protecting Israel from responsibility for war crimes and genocidal crimes in Gaza is evident. In this legal framework, Iran strongly rejects and condemns any arbitrary and misleading interpretation of Resolution 2722 by the US and its allies with the aim of justifying the use of illegal force and military aggression against Yemen.

Irvani In this letter, he noted: It is clear to everyone that the roots of the current situation in the Red Sea are the genocide and brutal killings carried out by the Israeli regime and the full support of the United States against the innocent Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. The United States cannot deny or cover up the undeniable fact that the recent events in the Red Sea are directly related to the continuing Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

He emphasized in this letter. It is that the interim government in Sana’a maintains its independent sovereignty, makes decisions and takes actions in its own interest. Any attempt to attribute their actions to the Islamic Republic of Iran is simply a deviation from the reality on the ground in Yemen, as well as a deviation from the crimes that occurred in Gaza. The United States, the United Kingdom and their participating allies are fully responsible for violating international law in committing military aggression against Yemen.

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations asked the international community in this letter. which clearly condemns the military aggression of the United States and the United Kingdom to Yemen and added: This clear violation of international law and the United Nations Charter requires strong condemnation.

This letter states: The Islamic Republic of Iran warns against the continuing nature of such aggressions, as it poses a threat to peace and security in the region, endangers maritime security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, and undermines UN mediation efforts and political processes aimed at achieving the goals of a durable solution. And the peace in Yemen is weakened.
