The speaker of the US House of Representatives again disagreed with Biden’s request
The speaker of the US House of Representatives once again opposed the president of this country to facilitate the process of approving the budget related to the provision of emergency aid to Ukraine. |
According to the report of Fars News Agency International Group, “Mike Johnson”, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, resisted the efforts of US President Joe Biden to revive the suspended laws regarding sending aid to Ukraine. He said that the Republican-led House of Representatives will not accept this plan, unless the Democrats agree to the plan related to the stricter crackdown on immigrants and the implementation of stricter laws on the US-Mexico border.
According to the “New York Times”, Johnson’s latest ultimatum to Biden casts more doubt on the prospect of Congress agreeing to the US president’s request to provide tens of billions of dollars in emergency aid to support Ukraine against Russia.
Johnson told reporters after leaving the White House and meeting with Biden and other leaders of the US Congress: I repeated to the president what I have been saying for months. My point is that We must have fundamental changes in border policies. We must insist on this issue so that our borders are the main priority of the government.
Republicans insist that the package proposed by the president to support Ukraine should be accompanied by measures to crack down on illegal immigrants on the southwest border of America. There is a high possibility that Biden’s request will not find a way to be implemented despite the extreme right-wing groups in the House of Representatives who exert significant pressure to implement stricter immigration policies.
Biden had called on top lawmakers from both parties in an urgent effort to remove obstacles to aid to Ukraine. In this meeting, he emphasized that Congress should approve the budget for air defense and artillery capabilities for Ukraine so that the country can continue to defend itself against Russian attacks.
House Republicans have long insisted that significant changes must be made before agreeing to a vote on funding for emergency aid to Ukraine. See Biden’s border policies. On the other hand, the Democrats of the House of Representatives state that the efforts for both demands must go together, otherwise none of them will be achieved at all.
