Germany’s effort to attract labor from other countries/ agreement with Vietnam during Steinmeier’s visit to Hanoi
While Germany is facing a severe shortage of skilled labor these days, it is trying to improve the situation by recruiting from other countries, and in this regard, the President of Germany has signed an agreement with this country during his visit to Vietnam. |
Currently, with the support of the Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the German government has tried to recruit skilled workers from Vietnam. At the beginning of Steinmeier’s state visit to this Southeast Asian country, the labor ministers of the two countries signed the relevant agreement. During his visit to this country and after talking with his Vietnamese counterpart, Steinmeier said: “We need skilled workers in Germany, and we are happy that Vietnam is ready for this cooperation with Germany.”
Hubertus Hill German Federal Minister of Labor also said: I believe that this is the beginning of a really fruitful cooperation. According to him, here is the issue of removing bureaucratic obstacles and also ensuring that people who visit us in Germany are treated fairly. He emphasized that the legal framework has already been established by the Skilled Immigration Act. For this purpose, more targeted information should be provided in Vietnam about the legal situation and options available in Germany.
Steinmeier arrived in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, on Tuesday morning. His wife Alke Bodenbander also accompanies him. A trade delegation also came to Asia with Steinmeier.
Vietnam is almost as big as Germany in terms of area, but with a population of 98 million, it has 15 million more people. It is one of the last communist states in the world, but it opened up economically a long time ago. There are many shops with famous luxury brands in Hanoi, the capital of this country. According to the Federal Statistical Office, about 207,000 people with a Vietnamese immigration background would live in Germany in 2022.
Steinmeier made clear Germany’s interest in greater economic cooperation. The volume of bilateral trade between these two countries is currently about 18 billion euros. For Vietnam, Germany is the most important trade partner in Europe and the fourth most important investor.
Vietnamese President Vu Van Tuong asked Steinmeier to support the approval of the investment protection agreement between his country and the European Union by the Bundestag. .
This is the fifth visit of the German Federal President to Asia since the start of the war in Ukraine almost exactly two years ago. After the Russian attack on Ukraine, Germany is changing its political and economic situation. Relations with China and economic dependence on this country are seen in Germany today as more critical than a few years ago. The short formula these days for Germany can be more distance from China and more cooperation with its neighbors – such as Vietnam.
Germany and Vietnam have been linked in a “strategic partnership” since 2011, but the partnership has been somewhat inactive. In November 2022, German Chancellor Olaf Schultz went to Hanoi to revive these relations. Steinmeier also pursues the same goal.
Manpower shortage in many sectors has become a challenging crisis in Germany.
Recently, the Association of German Civil Servants pointed out Staff shortages in many sectors have warned of a weakening of public services under such conditions.
State services are increasingly at risk due to staff shortages, according to the civil servants association Dbb. Dbb President Ulrich Silberbach said: “The government has lost more than 550,000 employees and the situation is getting worse as native employees retire.
More than 1.3 million employees will retire in Germany over the next ten years. Silberbach said: “The lack of personnel jeopardizes the ability and competence of the government and management to act.” “>Danger of poverty awaits German pensioners
