The UN needs more funding to prevent a humanitarian disaster in Afghanistan
The World Food Program announced in a report that although a major humanitarian disaster has been avoided in Afghanistan in the last two years, more funds are needed to take care of the needy. |
According to the regional office of Tasnim news agency, “Philip Krapf” in charge of communications of the World Food Program stated this In 2023, the organization had to cut emergency food aid to 10 million people across Afghanistan and put hundreds of thousands of women and children at risk. A person in Afghanistan does not know where to get the next meal. Now every province of this country is in a crisis or a worse level of food insecurity. Many families live with difficulty. With a bad economic situation, unemployment and uncertainty, they are using their last resources”.
This UN official stated that after a year of budget cuts, the organization can now only provide food aid to the most desperate families.
Philip Krapf said: 760 million dollars are needed to continue the activities of the World Food Program in the next six months.
The United Nations previously announced that more than 29 Millions of people in Afghanistan need humanitarian aid.
The International Organization for Migration also announced in December last year that many people in Afghanistan do not have the necessary facilities to spend the winter.
