According to a Fars news agency reporter in Astana, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan, announced the country’s plans to sign an agreement with Uzbekistan on the joint use of transboundary rivers.

Norzhigitov stated that the further development of transboundary cooperation requires the creation of a new framework and the improvement of the existing bilateral and multilateral treaty framework on the joint use and protection of transboundary water flows with neighboring countries.

He said: In order to develop water relations between the countries, the water resource management system development plan for 2024-2030, the possibility of signing agreements for the joint management and use of transboundary waters between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, as well as the allocation of water in transboundary rivers between Astana and Beijing.
