48 American cities passed a resolution in support of the ceasefire in Gaza

The Chicago City Council passed a resolution in support of the ceasefire in Gaza in a development that indicates the spread of protests against the US government's policies in support of Israel.

According to Fars News Agency International Group, the Chicago City Council on Thursday approved a resolution in support of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza to become the largest city supporting a ceasefire in America.

Although this resolution has no legal effect, it indicates widespread opposition in the American society to the comprehensive support of the United States government to Israel in the Gaza war.

NBC News base wrote that so far, at least 48 cities in America have passed resolutions in support of the ceasefire in Gaza.

Despite this, the US government, by repeating Israel’s narrative, said that establishing a permanent ceasefire would be in Israel’s interest and prevented the Security Council from passing a resolution to end the war.

At the same time, the demonstrations in America in support of the ceasefire in Gaza are still going on. It was reported on Thursday that pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered near the US Congress building and demanded the government’s efforts to establish a ceasefire in Gaza.

The protesters were holding placards with different slogans. “Drop Biden/Cease fire now,” “Free Palestine,” “End all aid to Israel,” and “End the occupation” are some of the slogans on the protesters’ placards.

The English-language website “National” wrote that one of the protestors’ slogans was “No to peace in the stolen land/We want justice”. This demonstration took place this Thursday morning (local time) and the protesters tried to stop the passage of cars.

Washington DC Traffic Police Department reported in a message on social network X (formerly Twitter) that some streets were blocked as a result of the protests. The police asked people to pay attention to the instructions and use alternative streets for some routes.

The US has strongly supported Israel since the start of the war in Gaza, including by sending military aid. Meanwhile, many demonstrators and even some congressmen have asked the Biden government to try to establish a ceasefire in Gaza.
