International media have reported that seven workers who were taken hostage by a gunman at the factory of the American company “Procter & Gamble” near Istanbul have been released.
Turkish police freed the hostages from this factory in Gebze, located in northwestern Turkey. Police reportedly released the hostages after the suspect went to the toilet.
Sedar Yavuz, a local official, told AFP: “When he went to the bathroom, our security forces conducted an operation and freed the hostages without harm.”
He also said that the suspect has been arrested.
Turkish media reported that the suspect entered the factory at 15:00 local time (12:00 GMT). The hostages were released at 21:00 GMT.
Some sources have claimed that the suspect’s goal was to draw public attention to the situation in Gaza.
