The fact that the United Nations may be involved at some point requires that all parties agree to it. He addressed the war in Ukraine and said: Ukraine is fighting for its survival as an independent country. Their national borders are precisely defined according to international law. Russia should completely withdraw from the entire territory of Ukraine – including personnel and military equipment. Is. That is why Ukraine’s first priority is to retake Donbass. Ultimately, the security of our continent depends on the success of the armed forces of Ukraine.

He added: This war is not without consequences for the European economy. We must produce more and faster war materiel to support Ukraine while strengthening our security and defense policy capabilities. This requires a comprehensive industrial policy change.

None of the countries will meet all the criteria for accession in the near future. The EU should use the next few years to comprehensively prepare for possible rounds of enlargement. We must make our European home fit for the future. This process involves modifying decision-making processes to be able to react faster and more flexibly as a society. The budget of the European Union also needs to be modernized, otherwise the development will not be financed. The parties have their share in this matter. Western Balkan countries have made very little progress in reform for very different reasons. On the other hand, the European Union made promises that were not fulfilled at that time. Take, for example, North Macedonia, which has been a candidate for accession since 2005. It changed its name in 2019 under pressure from Greece, but accession talks have not yet begun – contrary to what was promised. As the European Union, we can no longer allow such gray areas in our expansion policy.

The EU will progress and be assessed individually. There should be no compromise on the accession criteria. Instead, our task is to gradually ease the connection of the Western Balkan countries to Europe – for example through gradual access to the internal market and EU budget programs.
