According to the report of Fars News Agency International Group, the French Nuclear Safety Organization announced in a statement that two nuclear reactors were shut down following a fire at the Chinon nuclear power plant in the west of this country.
This organization announced that on Saturday a transformer for reactor number 3 of this power plant caught fire in a non-nuclear section.
The statement explained: “With the loss The main external power of reactor number 3 was shut down automatically due to this fire.” The water collection joint with reactor number 3 was temporarily closed to prevent water leakage into the environment.
Shinon nuclear power plant has four active reactors, each with a capacity of 900 MW. This power plant previously had three other reactors that were shut down between 1973 and 1990.
The Chinon nuclear power plant is considered one of the oldest nuclear power plants in France. The active reactors of this power plant were built between 1982 and 1987. In 2023, this power plant has produced the equivalent of 5.4% of the total French nuclear electricity.
