– International News – Tasnim News Agency, the Court of Appeal of Paris today found Sarkozy guilty of illegal financing of his 2012 election campaign, which ultimately led to his defeat. He was also found guilty.
Sarkozy was sentenced to one year in prison, half of which was suspended and can be reduced to having an electronic bracelet. He received a one-year prison sentence in 2021 when he was first found guilty. The sentence was suspended by his appeal. However, the former French president’s lawyer has said that he will take Sarkozy’s case to France’s highest court. The new appeal means the suspension of the execution of the prison sentence. Sarkozy was in power in this country between 2007 and 2012.
France sets strict limits on campaign spending. Prosecutors said Sarkozy spent $45.9 million on his 2012 election campaign, nearly double the amount allowed.
