Applying visa restrictions against 100 Nicaraguan officials by the US

In order to intensify the pressure against the Nicaraguan government, the US government imposed restrictions on the issuance of visas for 100 officials of this country.

Europa Press reported that the US State Department issued a statement claiming that the sanctioned individuals were linked to “attacks on human rights and fundamental freedoms”. The imposed sanctions prevent the entry of these 100 Nicaraguan officials, whose identities have not yet been determined.

In recent years, the United States has imposed various sanctions against Nicaragua under the pretext of concerns regarding the observance of human rights, democracy and governance.

Nicaragua officials, in turn, strongly rejected the sanctions imposed by the United States and described these measures as interference and violation of national sovereignty, arguing that these sanctions are interference in the country’s internal affairs.

The government of Nicaragua has announced that the sanctions seek to destabilize the political and economic situation in this country.

Since 2018, following the imprisonment of the perpetrators of the failed coup in this Central American country, which was financed by the United States and Europe, the West has imposed extensive financial sanctions against the government of Nicaragua.

Relations between Washington and Managua have become extremely tense, especially after the 2021 presidential election in Nicaragua and the accusation of “fraud” against the Ortega government. The Ukraine war and Nicaragua’s support for Russia have also made the situation more complicated.
