Qatar Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani said at the Munich Security Conference that the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas does not look “very promising”.
Although he expressed optimism about an agreement between the two sides through the efforts of mediators, he also said, “The pattern of the last few days is not really promising. We will always be optimistic and always persevere.”
According to Al-Mayadeen, the Prime Minister of Qatar stressed that time is running out, emphasizing the acceleration of negotiations to establish a ceasefire before March 10 (which is the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan).
He also emphasized that the main driver of the ceasefire should not be conditional on the number of captives.
He said: This is the problem we were in and unfortunately many countries took advantage of it. To achieve a ceasefire, the condition is the exchange of prisoners. This should not be conditional.
On a regional scale, Al-Thani said that further delay in reaching an agreement could exacerbate tensions in the region.
