The Minister of Defense of Germany announced the possibility of increasing the country's defense expenses in the coming years to counter Russia.

According to Webangah News quoted by Mehr News Agency quoted by Fox News, the German Defense Minister said that the country may have to increase its defense spending more in the future.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Germany may need to spend more than 2% of its GDP on defense, to able to create deterrence against Russia in the coming years.

In his speech, the German Defense Minister added that Germany will spend more than 2% of its GDP on defense this year. According to him, the Berlin government is realistic enough to see that this amount of spending may not be enough in the coming years.

Germany’s defense ministry announced earlier this week that the country has met NATO’s 2 percent target for defense spending for the first time since the end of the Cold War, as After the war in Ukraine, Germany increased its defense spending.

However, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner said on Friday that keeping defense spending at 2% of GDP is a challenge for Germany.
