Strengthening patrols of Chinese boats near Taiwan

Beijing has stepped up patrols near Taiwan after two Chinese were killed in a boat accident.

China on Sunday strengthened its patrols near an island near Taiwan following the death of two Chinese citizens 4 days ago in a boat accident with the Taiwan Coast Guard.

According to Al Jazeera, Chinese Coast Guard spokesman Gan Yu said in a statement that they will conduct regular law enforcement patrols in the area. He added: The goal of the patrols is to maintain the operation system in the waters to preserve the lives and safety of fishermen.

Late yesterday, Saturday, the Taiwan Affairs Office in China condemned Taipei for the incident near Beiding Island in Kinmen, saying that the killing of the two people had caused great anger in China and that the Chinese government had good intentions towards the people. Taiwan has, but it will never tolerate Taiwan’s disregard for the safety of Chinese fishermen.

The statement said without going into details: The mainland reserves the right to take further measures and Taiwan will bear all the consequences.

The statement said: Fishermen on both sides of the Taiwan Strait have been operating in the Xiamen-Kinmen sea area since ancient times, and there are no such things as prohibited or closed waters for fishing around the Taiwan island group.

Last Wednesday, a Chinese boat carrying 4 passengers capsized near the Kinman Islands while the Taiwan Coast Guard was chasing it. All 4 people fell into the water and two crew members died later.
