Beijing asked Washington to stop harassing Chinese citizens
The Minister of Public Security of China criticized his American counterpart and announced that Washington should not deport or mistreat Chinese citizens without reason. |
China’s public security minister called on the US homeland security secretary to end alleged harassment of Chinese students entering the country, state media in Beijing reported on Monday.
China’s official news agency (Xinhua) reported that during Sunday’s talks between Wang Xiaowang and Alejandro Mayorkas, Beijing asked Washington to stop harassing and controlling Chinese students without any clear reason.
Beijing has repeatedly stated that Chinese citizens with valid travel documents have been subjected to hostile interrogation and deportation at US airports. Last month, Beijing’s embassy in the US advised Chinese travelers to avoid Washington Dulles International Airport.
During his visit to Mallorca, Wang called on the US to ensure that Chinese citizens are treated fairly and with dignity upon arrival. He also asked Mallorcas to correct the US decision to include China in the list of transit or drug producing countries.
A US statement on Sunday’s talks said that Wang and Mayorkas had a frank and constructive discussion about measures to combat the spread of precursor chemicals to fentanyl. According to the statement, Washington and Beijing also discussed expanding cooperation in protecting children from online sexual exploitation and abuse.
