Some countries should be excluded from NATO

US Senator Lindsey Graham has suggested that a number of countries be excluded from NATO due to defense costs.

reported by Mehr News Agency quoted by Tass, US Senator Lindsey Graham said that countries that refuse to meet the requirements of increasing defense spending to at least 2% of GDP should be excluded from NATO membership.

In an interview with CBS, Graham added: “I think it makes sense for everyone to commit to allocating 2% of each country’s gross domestic product to defense spending in NATO,” he noted. that “19 of the 31 countries that have to pay defense costs do not allocate 2% of their GDP.”

Gazaham said: “I want a mandatory and punitive system so that any country that doesn’t pay is kicked out.”

According to this American senator, Donald Trump, the former American president, “says right that he wants NATO countries to fulfill their obligations up to 2%”.

At the Madrid meeting in June 2022, NATO members reaffirmed their commitment to increase defense spending to at least 2% of GDP.

In 2014, at the request of the United States and NATO, NATO member states pledged to increase their military spending to 2% of GDP by 2024.
