Egypt: Suez Canal revenues are decreasing

The President of Egypt says that the country's income from international shipping through the Suez Canal has decreased significantly.

report Mehr News Agency, citing Reuters, the President of Egypt expressed concern about the decrease in income through the Suez Canal.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi announced on Monday in a statement that the revenues of the Suez Canal have decreased by 40 to 50 percent.

The President of Egypt reminded that the reason for the decrease in revenues through global shipping from the Suez Canal is due to the recent developments in the Red Sea.

Al-Monitor recently reported that the amount of world trade through the Suez Canal compared to the same period last year from approx. 145.25 metric tons (1000 kg per metric ton) last year has decreased to 140.55 metric tons this year.

Data collected by Al-Monitor indicates that while attacks on ships in the Red Sea continue and Global trade continues to be disrupted because of this, with almost 5 million metric tons less trade taking place through the Suez Canal this January. Also, according to the data of this country, compared to the same time last year, 150 less ships have passed through this channel.
