He was once arrested by the Zionists in 1992 for participating in activities related to the first Palestinian intifada.

His activities in the ranks of al-Qassam battalions started with the beginning of the first intifada in 2000. Abunja was one of the most prominent engineers who played a role in making weapons for al-Qassam, and his influence can be seen in the advanced weapons of al-Qassam battalions.

While Abuja had a house consisting of 2 rooms, one of his rooms was dedicated to military activities. and turned it into a workshop for making weapons. He held several positions in al-Qassam battalions, the last of which was the command of the engineering unit in the Rafah brigade. He also played a prominent role in most of Al-Qassam’s military operations against the occupiers inside the Gaza Strip.

He was injured and suffered from the injury for two years, but after recovery, he immediately resumed his jihad work in al-Qassam battalions.

This prominent Palestinian mujahid was wanted by the Zionists and was assassinated several times, but every time he was killed. He lives in good health, to the extent that his companions jokingly said that he has seven lives.

During the 2008 war, when Abu Naja was one of the commanders of al-Qassam battalions, Zionist fighters destroyed his house in the refugee camp. They targeted Al-Shoborah in Rafah. He was also assassinated in the 2014 war and was injured many times during his jihadi career.
