South Africa: Israel’s actions in Gaza are worse than apartheid

The representative of South Africa said: Israel is applying a more severe version of apartheid in the Palestinian territories.

Today, on the second day of hearings at the International Court of Justice about the occupation of the Zionist regime, the representative of South Africa said that Israel is applying a more severe version of apartheid in the Palestinian territories than what existed in South Africa before 1994.

South Africa’s ambassador to the Netherlands, Vusimozi Madonsela, said at the session of the International Court of Justice on Tuesday: “We, as South Africans, understand the inhumane discriminatory policies and actions of the Israeli regime as a more extreme form of apartheid that was practiced against blacks in my country. We feel”.

The South African delegation told the World Court: “Israel’s massacre led to the death of 30,000 Palestinians in the last four months, which is not just a mere statistic, but the flesh and blood of the Palestinian people.”

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) based in The Hague on Monday started a week of hearings on the legal consequences of Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories, whose judges are supposed to hear the arguments of 50 countries in this regard.

These meetings are part of the Palestinian effort to force international legal institutions to investigate Israel’s actions, which has gained urgency since February 7 and the relentless attacks of the Zionist regime on Gaza.

These meetings are also held amid concerns about a possible Israeli ground attack on the city of Rafah in the southernmost part of Gaza. Rafah is home to more than one million displaced Palestinians who fled to the south to escape Israeli attacks.

The judges of this court have been asked to review the occupation, settlement and annexation, including measures aimed at changing the demographic composition and status of Jerusalem, and the approval of relevant discriminatory laws and measures by Israel.

The process of the hearings is separate from the genocide case that South Africa brought against Israel at the Hague. In late January, the International Court of Justice, in connection with South Africa’s complaint, asked Tel Aviv to take all necessary measures to prevent the genocide in Gaza.
