America vetoed Algeria’s draft resolution
The US Permanent Representative to the United Nations vetoed Algeria's draft resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza on humanitarian grounds. |
The permanent representative of the United States in the United Nations vetoed the Algerian draft resolution and this draft received 13 positive votes and was defeated by the American veto.
Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s representative in the United Nations, blamed the United States for preventing the issuance of a ceasefire resolution and said that what Washington wants is to buy more time for the military operations of the Zionist regime and protect its leaders from accountability. .
Algerian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ammar bin Jame, also emphasized that the Security Council cannot be satisfied with the request for a ceasefire in the implementation of its duties regarding peacekeeping.
Referring to the draft resolution presented by his country, he clarified that the draft resolution presented to the Security Council calls for a humanitarian ceasefire and the unhindered entry of aid to all parts of Gaza.
Ben Jame said that this draft calls for opposition to the forced migration of the people of Gaza and adherence to the ruling of the International Court of Justice on Gaza. Although a month has passed since the court’s ruling, there has been no change in practice, and it is time for the Security Council to fulfill its responsibility.
While presenting the draft of the resolution, the representative of Algeria stressed that voting in favor of this resolution is considered to support the right to life of Palestinians, and opposing it is tantamount to inflicting hunger on the people of Gaza.
Previously, Linda Thomas Greenfield, the American representative in the United Nations, said in response to Algeria’s draft: If the draft of the cease-fire resolution in Gaza is voted on in its current form, it will not be approved by us.
One of the most prominent provisions of the draft Algerian plan is that the Security Council “calls for an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons that must be observed by all parties”. Rejecting the “forced displacement of Palestinian civilians”, the draft resolution once again called on “all parties to comply with international laws”.
Meanwhile, the leaked four-page draft of the US resolution unusually focuses on the Hamas movement and mentions it six times in different paragraphs. The language used regarding the ceasefire is also general and provides the ground for the escape of the Zionist regime.
The US draft plan repeatedly condemns the Hamas movement with its claims and repeats the false accusations of the occupation.
Since the drafting of Algeria’s resolution at the end of January, the American side tried to prevent the process of negotiating the text of this draft and by presenting another draft, it attacked Algeria’s humanitarian measures and prevented its implementation.
