The White House: The time for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip has not yet come

The White House Strategic Communications Coordinator said on Tuesday that the US government believes that the time has not yet come for a complete and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

John Kirby said in a press conference: “We still do not believe that the time is right for a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire, that is, a ceasefire that will give Hamas power in the Gaza Strip and relieve it.” They are responsible for the release of prisoners.”

Kirby emphasized that the United States continues to conduct “sensitive negotiations” aimed at reaching agreements on the release of the remaining prisoners. “If we succeed, we can reduce the level of violence for a long time, more than a week, and in the future up to six weeks,” the official said.

In this regard, the United States once again vetoed Algeria’s draft resolution in the UN Security Council, which demanded an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons in the Gaza Strip.

It is worth noting that the United States has more than once vetoed resolutions in the UN Security Council that stop the implementation of Israel’s military plans in the Gaza Strip. Today’s veto was the third time the United States blocked a draft anti-Israel resolution since the war began in October 2023.
