Putin: Russia has always opposed the deployment of nuclear weapons in space
The President of Russia said on Tuesday that his country has always been against the deployment of nuclear weapons in space. |
Vladimir Putin, in a meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, said: This is the answer to the noise that has recently been raised in the West, including in the United States, about the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in space. Our position is clear and transparent: we have always been firmly against (the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in space) and we are against it now.
Meanwhile, Shoigu emphasized that Moscow has not placed nuclear weapons in space, saying: it has no intention to do so.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed US warnings about Russia’s nuclear space weapons as a ploy to get US lawmakers to approve more funding to counter Russia.
In this regard, Sergei Ryabkov, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, has also accused America of “lying”.
American media such as New York Times and ABC News have claimed that Russia is planning to develop nuclear weapons in space. These media say that this capability can be used against satellites. The New York Times says that America does not have the ability to deal with such a weapon.
Mike Turner, the chairman of the intelligence committee of the US House of Representatives, considered this action a “serious threat” and warned against it.
