Tokyo and Seoul agree to cooperate in countering North Korea’s actions

Yoko Kamikawa and Cho Tae-yul, the foreign ministers of Japan and South Korea, met on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting in Brazil and discussed cooperation to counter what they called North Korea’s provocative actions, including ballistic missile tests by Pyongyang. They reached an agreement.
According to the report of NHK news channel on Thursday morning, the foreign ministers of Japan and South Korea, who traveled to Brazil to participate in the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, met in person for the first time in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.
During this meeting, the foreign ministers of Japan and South Korea agreed on cooperation to counter North Korea’s provocative actions, including test firings of ballistic missiles by Pyongyang.
They also agreed in this meeting to plan strategic talks between the deputy foreign ministers of their countries, as well as security talks between the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense at an appropriate time this year.
According to NHK, Kamikawa also met French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejournay on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting.
The foreign ministers of Japan and France agreed during this meeting to continue their unwavering support for Ukraine.
In this meeting, the senior diplomats of Tokyo and Paris also exchanged views on developments in the West Asia and East Asia, including the Korean Peninsula, and emphasized their close cooperation in the future.
