Artists in Germany boycott cultural events in support of the people of Gaza
More than a thousand artists in Germany say that they are withdrawing from participating in cultural events in this country due to the government's suppression of the voices of supporters of Palestine. |
Indian-American filmmaker Sunil Sanzgiri, who was supposed to show his film at the Berlin Film Festival, withdrew from the festival.
According to Reuters, he says that the German authorities have silenced the voices that speak in favor of the Palestinian people, so he does not want to be their “partner in crime”.
This Indian-American filmmaker, who supported the “Strike in Germany” event, is not the only one who boycotts Western cultural events in solidarity with the Palestinian people. “Strike in Germany” is actually an initiative started by anonymous artists in January, asking filmmakers, musicians, writers and other artists to withdraw from cultural events held in Germany due to the suppression of pro-Palestinian voices.
Since cultural events are often state-sponsored, critics say the German government uses its financial power to prevent any criticism of the Zionist regime.
According to the list available on the website of this initiative, about 1,600 artists have joined this movement, including the Nobel Prize-winning French author Annie Arnault.
In general, since the beginning of the Gaza war, such movements have been formed in other parts of Europe. Until now, many people have asked the European Radio and Television Union to exclude the Zionist regime from participating in the “Eurovision” singing competition.
In France, a group of artists organized a “march of silence” in November, holding white banners without slogans.
