providing subsidies to families; The solution of Chinese experts to restore the declining population
Chinese experts say that providing subsidies to families and allowing people to work at home can improve the country's population decline. |
Chinese media say that following the population decline in this country, the debate on the effectiveness of current policies in supporting fertility has increased and requests to provide more subsidies to families have been taken into consideration.
According to the South China Morning Post, Chinese lawmakers will discuss issues such as population decline, which has become a deep concern, ahead of meetings early next month.
According to a new report by the Yu-Wo Population Research Institute, if the government subsidized families, the birth rate could be increased by 20 percent, which would mean two million more babies per year. The report also argues that birth rates could be increased by between 4 and 10 percent if workplaces allowed parents to telecommute and work from home.
In addition to these two methods, encouraging the employment of foreign nurses, providing parental leave, financing technologies that help fertility, and educational reforms can also increase the birth rate.
However, one expert, who spoke anonymously, said: “Many of the current proposals to increase the birth rate are superficial and do not take into account the complexities of China’s unique social fabric.”
It should be said, China’s population decreased for the second year in a row in 2023 and reached 1.4 billion people. This declining trend has raised concerns about the economy of this country in the future.
