Unexpected visit of German Foreign Minister to Ukraine
In an unexpected trip to Ukraine and meeting with his counterpart in this country, the German foreign minister emphasized the need for the continuation of Western support for this country. |
according to the report of the international group Tasnim news agency quoted by the German publication “D Site”, Analena German Foreign Minister Baerbock unexpectedly visited Ukraine today (Saturday). During his trip to Odessa on the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion, he announced more arms assistance from Germany. “We support you every day, including the delivery of arms,” Baerbok said at a press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kolba, in the port city of Odessa.
However, the German minister admitted that there are problems in getting the necessary weapons. “Of course, everything we deliver is not enough,” he said. What is needed is “a lot more ammunition, a lot more air defense and a lot more artillery,” Baerbock added. Germany did not mention the supply of Taurus cruise missiles. “We’re looking at how we can get more of that help, including long-range weapon systems,” he said only. The German federal government has so far rejected the delivery of Taurus missiles to Ukraine. He is worried that Ukraine could use this huge weapon system to attack targets deep in Russian soil. It thanked for the arms support – but at the same time called for expanding the delivery of such weapons. He said: I honestly want to say that the way to end the war is to increase military aid. Kulba criticized that if “all the decisions to support Ukraine in terms of arms supply had been implemented quickly” after the Russian invasion, Ukraine could have regained more territory.
“Colba” explicitly confirmed German support. He said: German weapons save the lives of Ukrainians. Germany and Ukraine have become “strategic allies” and there is “systematic and permanent support” from Germany. Koleba added: “This is the end of a close policy with Russia.” Germany has realized that its reliable ally in the east is not Russia, but Ukraine.
Exactly two years before Baerbok’s visit, on February 24, 2022, Russian forces invaded Ukraine in a massive invasion. Since then, Ukraine has waged a tough defensive battle against the invaders, using Western weapons. After the initial hesitation, Germany is now one of the country’s biggest military supporters. and Europe have traveled a common path in the last two years since the beginning of the war. He added: Weapons are being supplied to Ukraine and are on their way to the European Union. Europe has positioned itself as a strong actor making “ambitious historical decisions”. “History is being written,” Kulba said.
Kulba also said: “Two years ago, I could not have imagined that in 2024 there would be so many reasons to be proud.” to be European. Baerbock said it could be a “happy day” because you could see the European flag at the border crossing. During the last two years, we have traveled this European path together. They flew to Berlin and landed there on Saturday morning. At the United Nations, Baerbok called on the international community to increase pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war against Ukraine that began two years ago. “If we care about a world where every life matters equally, it’s up to each and every one of us to stand up to Russia’s war,” he said in New York.
Barbok wrote in X on Saturday morning that Germany will not allow “Putin to rob Ukraine of its homeland and freedom.” Germany stands by Ukraine, “as long as you need us. As long as you can rebuild your future in peace.”
Baerbok also rejected the criticism of the arms delivery to Ukraine and said: Anyone who claims that the arms delivery is prolonging the war has entered Putin’s game.
