Holding early voting in Russian elections near the front lines
TASS news agency of Russia announced the holding of voting for the presidential elections of this country in the Zaporizhia region. |
Russia’s state-run Tass news agency reported that early voting in Russia’s presidential election is underway in the Zaporizhia region in southern Ukraine, which Moscow annexed in a referendum.
According to TASS, the first people to vote are the residents of towns near the front line, including military personnel.
Russian presidential elections are scheduled to be held on March 17 (March 27).
The registration of election candidates has ended with a list including Putin and three other politicians. If Putin wins the fifth election race, he will be in power until 2030.
Zaprogya is one of four regions of Ukraine that Russia annexed in September 2022 after holding separate referendums, which Ukraine and its Western partners do not recognize.
Tass news agency reported that residents of these areas can vote in the elections by presenting a Russian or Ukrainian passport.
