The Palestinian Prime Minister resigned
Mohammad Ashtiye announced his resignation in line with the decision of the Palestinian parties to form a technocratic government. |
Mohammed Ashtiyeh, the Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority announced the resignation of his government at the beginning of the weekly cabinet meeting.
According to the TRT report, Ashtiyeh said in a press conference: I am announcing the resignation of my government and from now on Mahmoud Abbas (head of the self-governing organization) is in charge.
The resignation of the Ashtiyeh government is in line with the preparation for the formation of a technocratic (non-political) government to administer the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, because the principle of forming a technocratic government remains on the table of the Council of Ministers. On the other hand, Sky News Arabic correspondent claimed that there are signs that Hamas has agreed to the formation of this technocrat government.
According to the Palestinian media, Mahmoud Abbas informed several international institutions that his candidate for the formation of the new government is Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, the head of the Palestine Investment Fund. The mission of this technocrat government is to rebuild Gaza and return security to this strip after the war.
This technocrat government will have no connection with any Palestinian party, and independent and professional forces will be in charge of the transitional administration until elections are held if the situation calms down.
