The Secretary General of the United Nations called for the reform of the Security Council

The Secretary General of the United Nations strongly criticized the United Nations Security Council and said: The lack of unity of the Security Council regarding Gaza and Ukraine has greatly weakened its authority.

He called for a serious reform in the composition and work of the Security Council. What Guterres means by the lack of unity of the council is actually the right of veto, which has led to the death of thousands of innocent people in Gaza. Using the right of veto, America rejected 3 draft laws that demanded the cessation of the war in Gaza.

The most recent of them was the Algerian draft resolution that called for an immediate ceasefire, and it was voted on at the 20th meeting of the Security Council this month, and the voting ended with only one American vote against and the British abstaining.

This is not the first time that America abused its veto power in the Security Council. Since the beginning of the new round of conflict between Palestine and the Zionist regime, the United Nations Security Council has voted on the situation in Palestine eight times, and only two resolutions have been approved. In the course of these votes, the United States, by ignoring the lives of the innocent people of Gaza, abused its right of veto many times, and this issue has become the biggest obstacle to the adoption of necessary measures by the UN Security Council.
