Polish Foreign Minister: Washington’s credibility is in danger
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland said: America's promise to help Ukraine must be followed by action, otherwise America's credibility will be lost. |
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski warned that if Congress does not approve US President Joe Biden’s request for more military aid to Ukraine, the credibility of the United States will be destroyed.
Although the Senate earlier this month approved a $95 billion aid bill for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, opposition from House Republicans stalled the bill’s passage as they sought credit for tougher border controls to stem the flow of illegal immigration. They consider it preferable to help Ukraine.
House Speaker Mike Johnson refused to put the bill up for a vote, saying it could take weeks or even months for Congress to send it to Biden’s desk.
In an interview with CNN on Sunday, Sikorsky said Ukraine is currently in “defensive mode” and is facing defeat on the battlefield due to a lack of ammunition.
He added: They have been defeated. Around Avdioka, which is outgunned in artillery eight to one. They blame the situation on the front line on the House Republicans who won’t approve the supplemental budget bill that includes more than 60 billion dollars in aid to Ukraine.
When asked what his message would be to House Speaker Mike Johnson, Sikorsky said: “I would say … this is Ukraine’s destiny, it’s the tortured people of Ukraine who are begging you, but this credit It is also your country that may be lost.
He continued to remind Biden of last year’s visit to Kiev and said that the American president has committed to do whatever is necessary and however long it takes for Ukraine.
For months, Biden has been pushing Congress to pass additional military funding for Kiev, arguing that Ukraine would lose the conflict without U.S. aid.
Earlier this month, he blamed the fall of Avdiyoka, a key Donbas base for Kiev, on the “inaction of Congress” and claimed that Ukrainian forces were forced to withdraw due to low ammunition supplies.
Moscow has condemned sending Western weapons to Ukraine, arguing that the move will only prolong the conflict.
